Tatkarma yanna bandhay sa vidya ya vimuktaye. Aayasayaparam karma vidanya shilpanaipunam. - Shri Vishnupuran - That which does not create bondage is Karma, that which paves the way for liberation is Vidya. The rest of the work is a form of hard work and other studies are just art skills.Indian sages and mystics have called knowledge (vidya) as the means of man's salvation. Man has been yearning for freedom from fear, hunger, disorder, evil tendencies, misconduct, weakness, humility and inferiority, disease, grief etc. since eternity. The above Mahavakya of Sri Vishnu Purana gives the same message that man should make efforts to get freedom from all his troubles through knowledge. Learning is successful through sacrifice and penance, hence attainment of knowledge is always laborious.

The main object of education is the establishment of a twofold harmony in every individual – harmony within his own self and harmony with other living beings in the world.
